What does “Lekker” Mean?

“Lekker” is an Afrikaans word that translates to nice, pleasing or enjoyable. Amongst the locals it describes situations, aesthetics, taste and overall vibe. “Hey man that’s a Lekker shirt. This coffee tastes so Lekker. I love the beach, it’s so Lekker Bru”

You could even say that many South Africans see this term as something to strive towards.

So how does this have anything to do with photography? Well when I first moved to the USA people would often ask me if I spoke a different language or if I could teach them new words or phrases. Now, if you ask any South African to teach you any form of colloquialism, note incoming cuss words.

However, this often slanders our culture so I’d always try to spread good vibes and teach them my favorite South African word, Lekker. Lekker Photography started when I knew I had “The Shot” while doing a photoshoot, you know that one photo you take when you know you barely have to edit it purely for how good it is. Whenever that photo came along I’d always whisper to myself, “ah… so Lekker Bru”, and so Lekker Photography was born.

About Me

My name is Michael Mac Minn, owner of Lekker Photography, I’m South African born and currently residing in South Florida. I believe that the best memories in life are bookmarked in time and these bookmarks are thumbnailed with photographs.

I use a camera as a tool to depict the story. Whether the story is a model trying to break through in the industry or just ordinary people with a unique background, the story is told with my camera.
